*Original Art* An encaustic painting "Pompeii Red "

This is an original encaustic painting on a .25 inch thick - piece of wood. Encaustic painting involves painting with a combination of melted beeswax, resin and pigments. This painting is "Pompeii Red" - created with layers of wax in reds and golds then set ablaze with a "shellac burn" (who says you have to paint with a paintbrush??) to develop cells and texture.  Then I carved through the layers down to the different shades of red..... As with many encaustic paintings - this artwork can be buffed to a high sheen.   I've included my inspiration picture in the photos.  My sincere apologies for not knowing the source of that picture to cite. 
 
This listing is for the original art without a frame. The sides are painted and the piece is ready to hang with a sawtooth hanger which can easily be removed for professional framing. The painting is signed and dated on the back and will be accompanied by a signed certificate of authenticity.
